CONOCE A SETH MAGAZINER
Seth Magaziner is a lifelong Rhode Islander, dad to Max and Lucy, and husband to Julia. Before being elected to represent Rhode Island in Congress in 2022, Seth served for eight years as Rhode Island’s General Treasurer after beginning his career as a public school teacher.
Throughout his career, Seth has been committed to putting working Rhode Islanders first. In Congress, he has focused on lowering costs, creating economic opportunity, defending democracy, and fighting government corruption.
Seth is fighting to protect Social Security and Medicare, lower the cost of prescription drugs and health care, expand access to affordable health coverage, create good-paying jobs, strengthen public education, pass common-sense gun safety legislation, and defend every woman’s right to make her own health care decisions.
As a member of the House Natural Resources Committee, Seth has focused on protecting Rhode Island’s coastline and fisheries, and reducing energy costs by expanding affordable clean energy. On the House Homeland Security Committee, he is focused on strengthening cybersecurity, combating extremism, and addressing emerging threats while upholding constitutional rights and due process. He has also been a strong voice in holding the federal government accountable when administration policies negatively impact Rhode Island families.
Seth believes public office is a public trust. He is the lead sponsor of legislation banning members of Congress and the President from trading stocks, to help ensure that elected officials serve the public—not their own personal financial interests. He has also introduced legislation guaranteeing every full-time worker at least two weeks of paid leave each year, giving time to care for loved ones, manage everyday needs, or simply enjoy a vacation.
Prior to entering Congress, as General Treasurer Seth led Rhode Island’s historic school construction initiative, helping rebuild and modernize public schools across the state. He also expanded clean energy financing through the Rhode Island Infrastructure Bank, supporting projects that created thousands of jobs while lowering energy costs for families and businesses.
Every day, Seth continues fighting to lower costs, strengthen Rhode Island’s economy, protect fundamental rights, freedoms and democracy, while working to help create more opportunities for working families. He believes that government should work for the people—not special interests or political extremists—and remains committed to building a stronger, more affordable future for every Rhode Islander.
