NRA Rewards Fung for His Record of Standing with Gun Industry and Against Keeping Rhode Islanders Safe from Gun Violence

WARWICK, RI- The National Rifle Association(NRA) this week gave Allan Fung an “A” rating in the race for the second congressional district.

Allan Fung has previously stated he is against any limitations on assault weapons despite their role in the deadliest mass shootings that have claimed thousands of innocent lives. Fung also opposed Rhode Island’s red flag law, which protects victims of domestic violence by empowering law enforcement to confiscate weapons from those who are a danger to themselves and others. Fung has opposed these common-sense laws while at the same time accepting thousands in campaign contributions from the gun industry. This is the second time Allan Fung has gotten an A rating from the NRA.

“I will support common-sense gun safety bills in Congress because I want my son Max and every child to grow up in a world where they don’t have to worry about lockdown drills and mass shootings when they go to school in the morning,” said General Treasurer and congressional candidate Seth Magaziner. “I am committed to protecting victims of domestic violence, keeping guns out of schools, and passing common-sense reform so we never have to experience the tragedy of another mass shooting.”

In stark contrast to Fung, Magaziner has proudly received an F rating from the NRA and has been recognized by Moms Demand Action as a “gun-sense candidate.” As Treasurer, Magaziner ended the state’s investments in companies that manufacture assault weapons, advocated for a bill to ban guns in schools, and helped hundreds of victims of violence relocate away from their abusers by expanding the state’s crime victims compensation fund.

Magaziner has also been endorsed by the Rhode Island Coalition Against Gun Violence, the Brady PAC, Giffords Courage PAC, and gun safety activist Fred Guttenberg who lost his daughter, Jaime, in the tragic mass shooting in Parkland, FL.  Giffords PAC is a gun safety organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.  Brady PAC was formed leading up to the 2018 midterm elections as a counterweight to the gun lobby. It upholds the policy ideals that have been championed by its sister organization, Brady— one of the nation’s oldest gun violence prevention grassroots advocacy organizations.

“We need leaders like Seth who understand that gun violence does not have to be a way of life,” said Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America volunteer and advocate Pam Lauria. “We cannot afford to send Allan Fung to Congress, where he will rubber stamp the NRA’s extreme MAGA agenda.”
