Ironworkers Local 37 Endorse Magaziner for Congress

First Major Endorsement in Race for Rhode Island’s 2nd Congressional District

PROVIDENCE, RI- Today, Ironworkers Local 37 endorsed Seth Magaziner in his campaign for Congress. This marks the first union endorsement in the race for Rhode Island’s second congressional district.

“Seth is a proven job creator and champion of working people,” said Ironworkers Local 37 Business Manager David Langlais. “Seth’s school construction initiative has put Ironworkers to work around the state as we proudly build and renovate the schools our own children and our neighbors attend.  We know he will fight in Washington for working families and we enthusiastically support him.”

As the co-chair of the School Buildings Task Force, Magaziner led a $1.7 billion investment in repairing and replacing Rhode Island schools and resulting in over 28,000 jobs statewide. To date, the program has improved nearly 200 schools and positively impacted over 100,000 students. Magaziner has also been a strong proponent of expanding access to career and technical education and building pipelines between schools, the building trades, and apprenticeship programs.

“I am honored to earn the support of the Ironworkers,” said General Treasurer and congressional candidate Seth Magaziner. “Together, we have rebuilt schools so that our students are able to succeed in a modern economy.  As Rhode Island’s member of Congress, I will continue to fight for working people by investing in infrastructure, prioritizing safety standards for workers, and protecting the right to organize.”

The Ironworkers Local 37 was Magaziner’s first union endorsement in his bid for General Treasurer in 2014.
