Rhode Island Laborers’ District Council Announce Support for General Treasurer Seth Magaziner for U.S. House of Representatives – District 2

PROVIDENCE, R.I.— The Executive Board of the Rhode Island Laborers’ District Council, representing over 12,000 union members across the state, is proud to announce they have unanimously voted to endorse the election of General Treasurer Seth Magaziner to Rhode Island’s 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“As our 2nd District Congressman, Seth will continue to advance the rights and protections of all workers and the right to a secure and dignified retirement,” said LIUNA General Secretary-Treasurer & New England Regional Manager Armand E. Sabitoni.  “The future of Rhode Islanders and all working Americans will be in good hands.”

As we face a most critical time in our nation’s history, with Republicans trying to turn back the clock on workers’ rights and voters’ rights, it is imperative we elect a strong, congressional leader to maintain a democratic majority in congress. That candidate is Rhode Island General Treasurer Seth Magaziner who has the experience and proven track record to get the job done.

“We know we can count on Seth Magaziner to carry on the legacy of retiring Congressman James Langevin to move our state and our country in the right direction toward economic prosperity and justice for all,” concurred Business Manager/ Secretary-Treasurer RI Laborers’ District Council Michael F. Sabitoni.

As our 31st General Treasurer, succeeding Governor Gina Raimondo in 2015, Magaziner has made it his top priority to expand socio-economic opportunity and financial stability for all Rhode Islanders. His honest and effective leadership has moved our state toward expansive job growth with sound and creative investments that have supported local communities and their residents with a quality way of life.

“I am honored to receive the support of the Laborers International Union of North America who represent more than 12,000 hardworking Rhode Islanders,” said General Treasurer and congressional candidate Seth Magaziner. “The fight of our generation is happening now in Washington and when I become Rhode Island’s next Congressman, I will fight to create good-paying jobs, improve safety standards for workers, and protect the right to organize.”

Magaziner has significantly advanced the earnings of Rhode Island’s Pension Fund with his fiscal initiatives that have strengthened the long-term outlook for the system. As Co-Chair of the Rhode Island School Building Task Force, Seth developed a once-in-a-generation plan to repair Rhode Island’s crumbling school buildings while putting thousands of tradesmen and women to work in the process. This is just a sampling of Seth’s vast achievements serving the needs of Rhode Islanders.  With his strong work ethic and belief in the American Dream, Seth will help to ensure a pro-union and pro-worker democracy that is fair and just.

Magaziner has been previously endorsed by the Rhode Island AFL-CIO, Rhode Island Building & Construction Trades Council, Ironworkers Local 37, Unite Here Local 26, Carpenters 330, Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 51, Sheetmetal Workers Local 17, International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, and Teamsters Local 251.
