Jobs & Economic Growth
If Rhode Island is going to get back on track, the Treasurer’s office has to be a platform for economic growth. As Treasurer, Seth Magaziner is committed to finding new and innovative ways to build up the state’s economic infrastructure. From roads and bridges to school buildings, Seth will make it a priority to finance projects that will put Rhode Islanders back to work today and make our state more economically competitive. Seth will fight for workers’ rights to organize, job security and for livable wages that allow hardworking Rhode Islanders to support themselves and their families.
Investing in Rhode Island
Seth believes believes that more Rhode Island taxpayer dollars should be used to create jobs right here in Rhode Island, not other states. The Treasurer’s office manages billions of taxpayer dollars, of which only a small fraction are invested in local businesses. That’s why Seth proposes innovative programs such as small business micro-loans and support for emerging start-up companies. Rhode Island must do more to help entrepreneurs access capital to help their businesses grow.
More than 60,000 current and retired public servants have devoted their lives to serving and protecting our community. They deserve the dignity and certainty of a stable and sustainable retirement system. Seth Magaziner is an experienced investment professional. As Treasurer, he will produce the strong returns, lower fees, greater transparency and improved customer service that Rhode Island retirees and all taxpayers deserve.
Seth Magaziner is committed to a financial system that works for all Rhode Islanders. Currently, over 25% of households in the state either don’t have access to a bank account or regularly rely on costly financial services like payday loans or pawn shop check cashing. As Treasurer, Seth will work with local banks and credit unions to ensure that everyone has access to affordable banking services, and will crack down on predatory practices that prey on working families and the most vulnerable members of our community.
An excellent public education system is the foundation of a prosperous economy. As a former elementary school teacher, Seth understands that the best investment Rhode Island can make is in its people. As Treasurer, Seth will vocally advocate for increasing our investment in early childhood education and our public universities, and will launch an initiative to rebuild our crumbling school facilities so that all Rhode Island children receive a world-class education.
Equality & Opportunity
Seth has a long record of fighting for equality and opportunity for all. He served as the Treasurer of the successful campaign for marriage equality in Rhode Island, is on the board of the state’s largest homeless shelter, and has testified before state and federal lawmakers about the dangers of payday loans and other predatory financial services. As Treasurer, he will continue to fight for equal rights, and will work to develop a financial system that serves all Rhode Islanders.
