Today, the United Food and Commerical Workers (UFCW) Local 328, the largest private sector union in the state, announced their endorsement of Seth Magaziner for re-election as General Treasurer.
“Seth Magaziner has focused his work as General Treasurer on promoting economic growth and financial stability for all Rhode Islanders,” said Local 328 President Tim Melia. “UFCW appreciates his work to promote of local businesses, job development and sustainable pensions. But we have more to do together, so we are proud to endorse him for a second term to continue this work.”
General Treasurer Magaziner has made financial empowerment a priority, because strengthening Rhode Island’s economy doesn’t just mean helping businesses – it also means helping families meet their daily financial challenges. Under his leadership, Rhode Island started automatically reuniting citizens with their Unclaimed Property. Since last fall, more than 50,000 Rhode Islanders have been reunited with their missing money, in most cases with no paperwork involved. The average check size was nearly $310.
General Treasurer Magaziner has also developed legislation that established new green infrastructure programs at the Rhode Island Infrastructure Bank, which create jobs for Rhode Islanders while helping taxpayers save money on energy costs.
“I thank President Melia and the 7,000 Rhode Island workers of UFCW Local 328 for their support of my re-election as General Treasurer,” said Magaziner. “It is a great honor to have their support this election cycle and their partnership in my next term as Treasurer. Together, I know we can continue to grow the economy and promote jobs in the state.”
