WARWICK, RI- Today, Magaziner for Congress announced the release of its television advertisement “Needed,” which profiles Rhode Island women standing up against Allan Fung and the extreme Republican efforts to outlaw abortion.
“Allan Fung’s extreme record on abortion rights is clear- he opposed making Roe v. Wade the law in Rhode Island in 2019, he has said he’s for allowing states to pass abortion bans without exceptions, and his first vote in Congress would be to make Kevin McCarthy Speaker, who has pledged to pass a national abortion ban that would override state-level protections for women, even in Rhode Island,” said Communication Director Patricia Socarras.
Magaziner has supported abortion rights throughout his career.
“As I talk to voters across the district, the overwhelming majority of Rhode Islanders oppose taking reproductive healthcare decisions away from women and their doctors and putting them into the hands of politicians,” said General Treasurer and congressional candidate Seth Magaziner. “I will always stand with Rhode Island women and in Congress, I will fight the Republican extremists intent to roll back women’s rights.”
Allan Fung has consistently held extreme positions on abortion:
- Fung has stated that a woman’s right to choose is a “state’s rights” issue, opening the door to extreme abortion bans like those in Indiana and Ohio. [WPRI, 5/11/12]
- Fung opposed the passage of the Reproductive Privacy Act that codified Roe v. Wade into Rhode Island law. [Boston Globe, 5/3/22]
- Fung sits on the board of the St. Thomas More Society of Rhode Island which lobbied against the Reproductive Privacy Act. The Thomas More Society advocated for the repeal of Roe v. Wade, filed suit in Rhode Island against the Reproductive Privacy Act, and has now set its sights on passing a national abortion ban and individual statewide bans. [Providence Journal, 5/5/2018]
- Fung was endorsed by the anti-choice group RI Right to Life [Providence Journal, 9/25/2014]
